If you’re a college student, two things are likely to be true: You probably love consuming streaming media, and you’re probably broke (or already in student debt). But if you need to cut back your entertainment budget, there might be a way to do it without canceling one of your streaming subscriptions. A handful of major streaming services offer discounts to college students, and generally, all you need to get them is to verify your student status using your .edu email address.
Hulu's student discounts
Hulu offers perhaps the best student discount: The service is normally $7.99 per month for the ad-supported plan, but students can get a subscription to Hulu for $1.99 per month. (Unfortunately, there is no student discount available for a premium Hulu subscription.) To be eligible for Hulu's discount (and all their bundles), you must be a student at a Title IV-accredited institution in the U.S.
Get Spotify Premium and Hulu student bundle
You can get Spotify Premium and Hulu (with ads) at a discounted rate of $5.99 per month if you sign up for their student discount (Spotify Premium is usually $10.99 and Hulu $7.99 per month). If you already have Hulu, you can still switch over to this plan.
Get Disney+ through Hulu with a student discount
You can get a discounted Disney+ rate before Disney cracks down on password sharing through Hulu's $1.99 student plan. Sign up for Hulu as a student and add Disney+ for $2.99 as an add-on. You can also add Max, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, Cinemax, and Starz for additional fees.
Cheaper Apple Music with free Apple TV+ student bundle
Right now, when you sign up for Apple Music for $5.99 a month (versus the regular $9.99 rate) via the Apple Store website, you can also access Apple TV+ as a “free bonus.” To qualify as a U.S. resident, you must be studying for a bachelor’s degree or a post-graduate degree at a university or college. (If you live in Canada, a post-secondary school will qualify.) Your student status will be verified by a third-party service called UNiDAYS, at which point you will be able to sign up for Apple Music at a discounted price for up to 48 months or as long as you remain an eligible student. You’ll be able to use Apple TV+ as long as you log in to the service with the same Apple ID.
Pay $2 per month with Peacock’s student discount
Peacock has a student discount, for which you pay $1.99 per month instead of its usual $5.99. The deal is good for 12 months, and you will need to verify your student status and be at least 18 years old. You can cancel at any time. You can stream Peacock on three devices at the same time and have up to six profiles. As with Hulu, you must be a student at a Title IV-accredited institution in the U.S. to be eligible.
Paramount+ offers a slight student discount
Normally $5.99 per month, a subscription to Paramount+ costs $4.50 if you sign up for their student service. Once your student status has been verified (you must be a student at a Title IV-accredited institution), you’ll be able to watch on up to three devices at the same time, download shows, and watch movies offline for up to four years. Note that this discount is for their Essential plan (with commercials) and does not include Showtime content or your local live CBS station, but it does still include NFL on CBS and EUFA Champions League games. You can read more about the discount here.
YouTube Premium’s student discount saves you 43%
Normally $13.99 per month, a subscription to YouTube Premium is free for the first month and then $7.99 per month if you sign up for their student plan. Included in the plan is the ability to watch unlimited videos uninterrupted by ads, download videos to your phone/laptop, and get an ad-free subscription to YouTube Music. You’ll be eligible for this price for up to four years; you’ll be required to re-verify your eligibility every year.
Get Prime Video with your Amazon Prime student discount
You can get Amazon Prime Student for free for a six-month trial and then pay $69.99 per year (normally $139). This deal is only for new members. You’ll get access to Prime Delivery, Prime Video, Amazon Music, Prime Reading, and other features.
